Deater helps the firm by utilizing his experience in engineering to help with the prosecution of new electrical and mechanical technologies.

Prior to joining Wolfe-SBMC, Deater spent 10 years at a company that makes meter reading technology for utility companies, working on quality assurance engineering for manufacturing and verification, before moving on to R&D, Design and System Engineering, and then later Project Management within the company. Deater has designed test equipment, laid out schematics, programmed integrated circuits, and tested performance for compliance with requirements. Deater also helped with the development of efficient processes for conducting design reviews and communicating requirements between marketing and engineering. Deater also has a proficient knowledge of robotics technology as part of his involvement in the radio control hobby.

Deater received his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from University of Idaho. Deater completed the USPTO Registration Examination in late 2014 and is a registered Patent Agent for the firm.
